When I think I have “seen it all”, I think of Dorothy! Born in 1917, Dorothy at 101 years old, is going strong! Dorothy has been a dear friend of my extended family for years.
Dorothy was introduced into my extended family before I was born. She took in my second cousin, who was an orphan, into her home. Dorothy nurtured Margie in her home for several years and they are best buddies to this day! Margie, at 81 years old, is doing great.
Dorothy fell and fractured her pelvis in June of 2019. With elderly people, a pelvic fracture often results in the termination of life. At 101, Dorothy is not typical in any way! She never gave up and pressed forward. She is healed and is walking with ease. She even danced with me, yesterday! I spent well over an hour with Dorothy and I was so blessed to be with her. She told me stories about her life and showed me around the complex she lives in. After my visit, Margie and her went out to a local restaurant for dinner.
As a PT for 34 years, I have treated thousands of patients visits. I get the pleasure to assist patient after patient to actualize their goals. I have treated many elderly patients and have seen amazing progress. I write this blog: to inspire the young to help the elderly, to give hope to the those who are injured, and to encourage the elderly that they need to continue to press forward to live life to its fullest. Dorothy, you are my hero!!!
